Chhina welcomes Centre's decision to scrap Sikh Black List

Amritsar, Sep 14 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina on Saturday welcomed the Union government's decision to slash the controversial 'black list’ of the Sikhs abroad.

In a statement here, he said the move would go a long way to correct the historic wrong as the list prepared during the high days of terrorism, was 'arbitrary’ and 'discriminatory’.

''I am extremely thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the move. It is a move, which is being taken by the Sikh world with open hands. Many Sikhs, who had nothing to do with the terrorism, were named in the list, which was prepared during the Congress regimes at the Centre, Chhina said.

He said with the decision, the Modi government has conceded the long-pending demand of the Sikhs from across the world.

''The names of 312 out of total 314 names of NRI Sikhs had been deleted and thus, the list is virtually non-existent now,'' he said and added that now, the Sikhs abroad can freely return and move to India, to pay visit to their families.

The BJP leader said many Sikhs had fled abroad during the 'tough times,' after were declared as sympathisers of terrorism, which was being objected to. The move now, he said, would bring them back to the mainstream, which would be in the interest of the community at large.
