Terrorists will fill vacuum after govt removes nationalist leaders: Rahul on Farooq Abdullah detention

New Delhi, Sept 17 (IBNS): Slamming the Centre over Farooq Abdullah's detention, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the government is trying to remove nationalist leaders like the National Conference (NC) chief and fill the political vacuum with terrorists.

"It's obvious that the Government is trying to remove nationalist leaders like Farooq Abdullah Ji to create a political vacuum in Jammu and Kashmir that will be filled by terrorists. Kashmir can then permanently be used as a political instrument to polarise the rest of India," tweeted the Congress leader.

Not only Abdullah but also other Kashmiri leaders including former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti were detained after the Centre took the historic step to withdraw the special status which Jammu and Kashmir used to enjoy since independence.

Under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), Abdullah will face the section of the law that deals with disturbing public order.

If proven he will face a minimum of three-month detention.

His home in Srinagar will be designated a "jail" for his detention, said reports.

Abdullah is already under unofficial house arrest for the last six weeks without any formal paperwork.

Only on Monday, a formal charge was levelled against him, as the Supreme Court took up a petition asking for his immediate release.
