Kolkata/New Delhi, Sept 18 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to media reports, the meeting is likely to take place at 4.30 pm

Banerjee earlier said the meeting should be seen as a 'courtesy call'.

The meeting is taking place at a time when the Central Bureau of Investigation is constituting special teams to trace the locations and whereabouts of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, as he has so farfailed to join the probe in the Saradha ponzi scam case, sources told UNI.

According to sources, the probe agency had written to the West Bengal Director General of Police and Chief Secretary of the state asking to direct Rajeev Kumar to appear before the CBI on Monday and the DGP had informed the probe agency that it was conveyed to Rajeev Kumar.

However, Kumar did not appear before the probe agency on Monday, following which CBI had again asked Kumar to appear on Tuesday at around 1000 hours in the morning , but , he still did not turn up.

The DGP on Monday had told CBI that notices were sent to his official residence. However, he is yet to respond to the notices.

Banerjee is considered as one of the strident critics of the BJP and Modi.

She had even skipped Modi's swearing-in ceremony as PM in May.

The Bharatiya Janata Party tried to corner Banerjee over the Rajeev Kumar issue and Kailash Vijayvargiya was quoted as saying by the media: "Banerjee is making a desperate attempt to save Rajeev Kumar as she is very well aware that his arrest would ensure that half of her cabinet will land behind bars."

In February this year, when the CBI had tried to reach out to Kumar at his residence, the officials of the federal probe agency were whisked away by the Kolkata Police. In a huge political drama, Mamata even staged a sit-in protest (dharna) on the same night against the CBI's move.

In the Lok Sabha polls, Mamata's Trinamool Congress lost 12 seats to have its tally coming down from 34 to 22.

On the other hand, Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a huge inroad in West Bengal by winning 18 seats, the highest ever by the saffron party at once-a-Left bastion.
