Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife Jasodaben at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Monday and they exchanged greetings.

Reportedly, the meeting was an unplanned one and Mamata happened to come across the Prime Minister's wife when she was about to board her flight to New Delhi. The Chief Minister gifted her a sari during the brief meeting.

Jasodaben, a retired teacher, was returning after a two-day visit to Dhanbad in Jharkhand. She also offered prayers at the Kalyaneshwari Temple in Asansol, located 68 km from Dhanbad.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, during which she is expected to bring up various issues including funds due to the state.

On Sept 17, Mamata wished Modi on his 69th birthday. She tweeted the message in English and Bengali.
