Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Chinmayanand, who is accused of rape by a law student, media reports said.

According to media reports, the BJP leader was hospitalised on Thursday after he complained of 'uneasiness'.

The woman, who was a second-year student of Chinmayanand's law college, accused him of sexually assaulting her for a year.

Earlier, in her statements to Delhi Police and the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team(SIT), she described the sexual assault was carried out by the politician for one year and also handed over the videos.

She alleged in her complaint that Chinmayanand made a video of her while she was bathing in the institute's hostel and later used it to rape her.

As proof of her allegations against the politician, she, too, managed to make some videos of the assault and posted them on Facebook before running away from the institution.

The case came to the Supreme Court's notice after lawyers staged protests against the alleged crime.
