One of four member gang battery thief arrested in Puducherry

Puducherry, Sep 22 (UNI) Police arrested a person belonging to a four member gang from Chennai which used to steal batteries from heavy vehicles here.

According to lorry drivers of the Transport Nagar here, one Karthik of Nandanam in Chennai used to visit Puducherry frequently along with three of his friends in a luxurious car.

He used to stop the vehicle at the Transport Nagar near Gorimedu here stating that his car needed repair and collect tools from the lorry drivers and leave the place after some time.

On each of their visit to Puducherry, the battery of lorries were found to be stolen.

Following this, the lorry drivers got suspiciouSs on Karthik and waited for their next visit.

Meanwhile, Karthik and his friends as usual came to the Transport Nagar on Saturday night and got tools from the lorry drivers who were waiting for him to commit the crime.

The lorry drivers caught him red handed and assaulted the gang.

While Karthik sustained head injuries, the other three escaped.

He was hospitalized and later handed over to the Auroville police.
