Howdy, Modi! PM Modi shares stage with US Prez Trump, targets Pakistan over 'terrorism'

| @indiablooms | 22 Sep 2019, 07:30 pm

Houston, Sept 22 (IBNS): Amid heroic welcome in Houston, Indian PM Narendra Modi on Sunday played a rockstar as he addressed the Indian diaspora at the mega 'Howdy,Modi!' event sharing the stage with US President Donald Trump and used the platform to target Pakistan over the issue of terrorism ahead of the United Nations engagement. While Trump spoke of threat from radical Islam and illegal immigration, Modi reminded all that the pepetrators of 9/11 and 26/11 terror attacks are all harboured in one nation (read Pakistan).

"There are certain people who are troubled by India's move on Article 370," Modi said referring to Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan is firing on all cylinders to internationalise the issue.

India recently scrapped Article 370 which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan government has contrinuously criticised PM Narendra Modi-led government over the issue. The country even raised the issue at different international forums but failed to gain support so far.

"These people shelters terrorism," Modi said as he targeted Pakistan without naming the nation.

"The masterminds of 9/11 and 26/11 attacks are found in which nation," he asked without naming Pakistan, as he addressed the massive gathering in Houston.

"It is time to fight against terrorism and those who are sheltering terrorists," he said after Donald Trump himself spoke of threat to borders of India and USA and the scourge of radical Islam.

Modi said US President Donald Trump is fighting against terrorism.

"Trump is strongly fighting against terrorism," Modi said and directed people present at the venue to give a standing ovation to the President.

Without naming Pakistan, US President Donald Trump, in his speech, said border security is vital to both India and USA and they are committed to fighting radical Islam.

Trump mentions Radical Islam and Border Security threats

Addressing Indian Americans at the huge gathering in the presence of PM Modi after a historic introduction of Trump by the Indian PM at the NRG stadium in Houston in Texas, Trump said border security is vital to both nations.

"We are taking steps to stop illegal immigration," said Trump and though he did not name Pakistan, his words were a veiled jibe at Pakistan exporting terrorism in Indian Kashmir.

Trump's speech and choice of words like "radical Islam" and "border security" ahead of Modi's attendance in the UN session and after the Kashmir move, assumes significance.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has vowed to raise the issue of Kashmir at the UN. Imran Khan is also trying to raise the issue with Donald Trump.

Claiming that India never had a better friend in the White House than before, Trump heaped praise on Modi and thanked Indian Americans for their contribution to USA.

He said both he and Modi are trying to keep the people safe and secure from Islamic terrorism and illegal immigration that plagued both countries.

As Trump mentioned these words, Indian Americans stood up and cheered for the US President.

Incidentally, Trump is scheduled to meet Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Monday.

The Language Factor:

From Punjabi to Bengali, Modi used different languages to describe the condition of India in his speech.

"Everything is fine," Modi said in different languages.

He made the comment at a time when controversy had recently erupted recently over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark on Hindi as a national language.

Recently, Shah extended his Hindi Diwas greetings to the people of the country and appealed that Hindi be made the primary language as it is necessary to have one to represent India.

It seemed that Modi reacted to the issue and tried to silence the critics of the government over the remark when he said: "The diversity of the country makes India's democracy stronger."

Modi also boasted that his government is bidding a farewell to filth, outdated laws and complicated tax structure!

"Making a transparent ecosystem to ensure development reaches the last man in the queue!" he said, adding that India is leveraging Digital India for Ease of Living!

"From ease of doing business to ease of living," he said, adding that his government is working tirelessly for a new India.

Modi invited Trump to visit India

Modi waxing eloquence about the US President said he is learning from Trump.

"President Trump calls me a tough negotiator," Modi said.

"He (Trump) knows the art of the deal very well. I am learning a lot from him," he said.

Modi is on a week-long trip to USA.

He will attend the UN General Assembly meeting this week.
