New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday visited Tihar jail to meet ex-Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the INX Media case.

The veteran Congress leader was sent to Tihar jail on Sept 5 on the charges of facilitating the flow of a huge sum of overseas money to INX media in 2007, when he was the Finance Minister. Allegedly, Chidambaram's son Karti received huge kickbacks as the facilitator of the process.

Last week, Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel had visited Chidambaram in the jail.

On last Monday, the former Union minister celebrated 74th birthday from jail. “I have asked my family to tweet on my behalf the following: My family have brought me greetings from friends, party colleagues and well-wishers. I am reminded that I am 74 years old. Indeed I am, but at heart, I feel 74 years young,” Chidambaram’s Twitter handle read.
