Modi says Ab ki baar Trump sarkar, Congress accuses PM of violating India's foreign policy
New Delhi: The Congress has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of violating India's foreign policy by "campaigning" for US President Donald Trump during the Howdy, Modi! event on Sunday.
While praising Trump at the event, Modi at one point said, "Ab ki baar Trump Sarkar (this time will be the Trump government)". Before the 2014 General Elections in India, "Ab ki baar Modi Sarkar" was the poll slogan which was raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Slamming the Prime Minister, Congress leader Anand Sharma tweeted, "Mr Prime Minister, you have violated the time honoured principle of Indian foreign policy of not interfering in the domestic elections of another country. This is a singular disservice to the long-term strategic interests of India."

"Our relationship with the United States of America have throughout been bipartisan, vis-à-vis Republicans and Democrats. Your actively campaigning for Trump is a breach of both India and America as sovereign nations and democracies."

Trump, the Republican leader, will seek a second term in 2020 when the US will head to the next Presidential election. In 2016, Trump succeeded Barack Obama by defeating Democratic leader Hillary Clinton.
