UP law student who accused BJP's Chinmayanand of rape arrested
Lucknow: The 23-year old law student, who has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chinmayanand of rape, was arrested on charges of extortion, police said on Wednesday.
The student had moved a local court for interim relief but failed to get it on Tuesday.
The court will hear the case on Wednesday.
The lawyers of Chinmayanand has filed a case alleging that the law student had sent a message on Whatsapp demanding Rs. 5 lakh. In the message, as the lawyers alleged, Chinmayanand was threatened to pay the amount or else the video clip shown by the law student would be made viral.
On last Friday, Chinmayanand was arrested and sent to jail for 14 days in connection with the rape case.
The woman, who was a second-year student of Chinmayanand's law college, accused him of sexually assaulting her for a year.
Earlier in her statements to Delhi Police and the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), she described the sexual assault was carried out by the politician for one year and also handed over the videos.
She alleged in her complaint that Chinmayanand made a video of her while she was bathing in the institute's hostel and later used it to rape her.
As proof of her allegations against the politician, she, too, managed to make some videos of the assault and posted them on Facebook before running away from the institution.
The case came to the Supreme Court's notice after lawyers staged protests against the alleged crime.
