Kolkata: BJP leader Mukul Roy on Saturday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Narada tapes scandal here.

He had earlier sought more time to appear before the investigating officers of the CBI.

Roy, who was summoned on Thursday by CBI for deposition for voice sample tests on Friday, failed to appear at the scheduled time on Friday.

Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel conducted the sting operations five years ago in which besides the IPS officer, the then 12 TMC leaders were found allegedly involved.

It came to light in 2016.

However, two leaders former Kolkata Municipal Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and  Roy changed the floor and are now with saffron brigade.

Senior IPS officer SMH Mirza was arrested by the CBI on Thursday and remanded to CBI custody until Monday.

This was the first arrest in the scam, which came to light in 2016 after the Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel did the sting operations.

IPS officer Syed Mohammed Hossain Mirza has been accused of taking wad of notes on behalf of several TMC ministers, MPs and MLAs while he was posted as Police Super of Burdwan district in 2014.

Mirza was arrested while he was summoned for the 8th time at the Nizam Palace for questioning.
