Jammu Municipal Corporation to fine for open defecation, urinating publicly, spitting

Jammu, Sep 30 (UNI) Jammu Municipal Corporation is all set to tighten noose against those indulging in open defecation, spitting, urinating publicly and littering on roads.

Official sources here said on Monday that Jammu is being developed as Smart City for which many initiatives are being taken, adding, "In view of the similar project, it was decided to fine people for urinating publicly and open defecation besides habitual of littering on roads."

"A fine from Rs 200 to 500 will be slapped depending upon the nature of violation under the norms of solid waste management act 2016."
The directives will come to force from October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

"The sanitary staff of JMC has been authorised to fine the violators," he said, adding that several steps were taken previously to aware people of maintaining hygenic and clean surroundings but they did not obey following which strict measures were being taken from October 2.

As per decisions, Rs 500 fine will be slapped for littering on roads, Rs 200 for spitting, urinating in public and dumping garbage.

However, Rs 500 will be charged for open defecation, he said, adding "People having no toilets in their houses can apply to the Corporation and we can help them in constructing the same as per government sponsored schemes."
