India awaiting Pakistan's response on fees, pilgrims number for Kartarpur Corridor: MEA

New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) India is awaiting early response from Pakistan on Islamabad's insistence for fees from pilgrims to the Kartarpur Gurudwara and is firmly committed to ensure pilgrims' visit on the occasion of 550th year of Guru Nanak's birthday.

"It is a matter of sentiment, there is no question of posturing. Our stand is we have to do it. We will insist that Pakistan should give its response to issues we have raised, only then things can progress fast," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here.

He said government of India has opposed the idea of 'fees' as 10 US dollars from pilgrim Pakistan has tried to charge.

He also said as part of agreement, India wanted to know whether a fixed number of pilgrims can visit Kartarpur. "So, they must give their responses....," he said.

Making fast paced progress from Indian side, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has invited former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for the function in Indian side of the border.

Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday, however, ruled out a visit to Pakistan for the Kartarpur Corridor opening.

"There is no question of me going (to Pakistan for Kartarpur corridor opening) and I feel Dr Manmohan Singh will not go as well,” he said, pointing out that there was a huge difference between visiting Pakistan and going to the Gurdwara through the Corridor.
