Security forces foil major terror strike in Assam's Tinsukia, nab hardcore ULFA-I militant
Guwahati: Security forces have foiled a major terror strike after apprehending a hardcore militant of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) with large quantity of explosive in Assam's Tinsukia district on Tuesday.
Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian army and Tinsukia district police launched multiple mobile vehicle check points in the general area of Chikrajan in Tinsukia district.
This resulted in apprehension of Self Styled sergeant Sabdo Asom alias Jonki Bora of ULFA-I.
The joint team also recovered electronic detonators, remote control and 10 kg of TNT explosive during the operation.
A top official of Indian army said that, regular intelligence inputs were being received from various intelligence agencies regarding the plans of ULFA-I militants to carry out bomb blasts in Upper Assam and attack security forces with an aim to revive their diminishing influence.
The success of this operation averted a major threat and helped in saving many innocent lives.
The Indian Army has been carrying out relentless operations in Upper Assam against the ULFA-I.
The recovery of these explosives and the apprehension of senior insurgents, has struck a major blow to the proscribed group in the region.
The operations have tightened the noose around the group and has brought relief to the local population.
