Maha polls: 9 sugar barons, directors of cooperative sugar factories in poll fray

Kolhapur, Oct 13 (UNI) As many as nine sugar barons and directors of cooperative sugar factories were in election fray to test their fate in western Maharashtra, which is also known as the 'sugar and gur belt' district.

Three sitting MLAs and four former MLAs are also contesting the election.

In Karveer assembly constituency, two sugar barons Chandradeep Narke (Shiv Sena) and P N Patil (Congress), who is also state party vice-president are pitted against each other.

In Kolhapur-south, sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Amal Mahadik, director and son of chairman of Rajaram cooperative sugar factory, Kasba Bavda in the city will lock horns with Rituraj Patil(Congress), nephew of Congress MLC Satej Patil, chairman of Dr D Y Patil cooperative sugar factory, Gaganbavda tehsil of this district.

Former state minister and president of Jansurajya Party Vinay Kore, who is chairman of Warna cooperative sugar factory, Kodoli in Panhala tehsil, is contesting from Shahuwadi assembly constituency.
