PM Modi congratulates Abhijit Banerjee for winning Nobel Prize in Economics
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Indian-American Economist Abhijit Banerjee on being conferred the Nobel Prize in Economics.
Acknowledging his notable contributions in the field of poverty alleviation, Modi tweeted: "Congratulations to Abhijit Banerjee on being conferred the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. He has made notable contributions in the field of poverty alleviation."

PM Modi also congratulated the other two winners one of whom is Banerjee's wife Esther Duflo.

Abhijit Banerjee, along with his wife Esther Duflo and Michael Kreme, jointly won the Nobel Prize in Economics on Monday “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty”.
Banerjee became the second Indian after Amartya Sen to win the Nobel prize in Economics.
Sen had won it in 1998.
Born in Kolkata, Abhijit Banerjee is currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
