Manipur: Drugs worth Rs 19 crore seized from Tengnoupal

Guwahati/IBNS: Police have seized huge quantity of contraband drugs worth Rs 19 crore from Manipur’s Tengnoupal district along the Indo-Myanmar border on Saturday evening.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input about a huge quantity of brown sugar was going to be smuggled from Myanmar towards India at any opportune moment through the international border near Dalpati area, a team of Tengnoupal district police launched a mobile checking at the area near international border to intercept any contraband items or drugs.

The police team noticed that a scooter loaded with two gunny bags behind the driver was coming from the Myanmar side.

When the police was trying to stop the scooter, the individual tried to turn away the scooter from the police team.

The police team chased the individual but he ran away towards the Myanmar border leaving the scooter aside.

During checking, the police team found two gunny bags which contained suspected brown sugar weighing around 9.722 kg.

A case was registered at Moreh police station (FIR No. 91(10)2019) under section 21(c)/60(3) ND&PS Act for investigation.
