Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee visits ailing Nabaneeta Dev Sen
Kolkata/UNI/IBNS: Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Banerjee on Wednesday visited ailing poet and novelist Nabaneeta Dev Sen here.
Banerjee inquired about the health of the ailing Sahitya Akademi awardee at her south Kolkata residence.
Dev Sen gifted her book 'Bhalobashar Baranda' to Banerjee.
Banerjee along with his wife Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer won the Nobel this year for their "experimental approach to alleviating global poverty".
The Nobel laureate, who came to Kolkata last night, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
After meeting Modi in the national capital, Banerjee said the Prime Minister's thoughts about the country is "unique".
"I feel privileged to get so much time from the Prime Minister. In the meeting, the Prime Minister shared his thoughts about the country which is so unique. He said how he wants to reform the bureaucracy. It was a unique experience of meeting him," Banerjee said.
The Prime Minister had said the country is proud of Banerjee, who had criticised the present dispensation saying the Indian economy is on a shaky ground after winning the Nobel.
