New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Directorate of Enforcement and sought reply on the plea of former Finance Minister and Indian National Congress Leader P Chidambaram for granting bail in the sensational INX Media case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had registered an FIR in the month of May 2017 over alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of ₹305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was Finance Minister.

The CBI arrested Chidambaram from his residence at New Delhi on August, 21 amid high drama.

The ED has registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act and has got custodial interrogation of Chidambaram to unravel the money laundering of proceeds of crime in the matter.

CBI Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar on October 17 after hearing the plea on behalf of Counsel for Directorate of Enforcement passed an order to interrogate Chidambaram till October 24 in INX Media case and also allowed him home cooked food, western toilet and medicines in ED custody.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet on October 18, naming several others, including Chidambaram, as an accused in INX Media case. The trial court has taken cognizance on the charge sheet.

On October 22, the Supreme Court granted bail to Chidambaram in CBI case, rejecting its plea that he may pressurise the witnesses or was a flight risk.

Justice Suresh Kait of the Delhi High Court today after hearing the plea on behalf of Chidambaram issued notice to Directorate of Enforcement and sought the reply on bail application within a week. November 4 was set for further hearing.
