Let Shiv Sena approach us for support: Congress over Maharashtra power tussle
Mumbai/IBNS: Hinting at a new equation in the Maharashtra politics, former Chief Minister and Congress leader, Prithviraj Chavan said the Shiv Sena must approach his party if they want support to form the next state government.
Chavan said, "Let the Shiv Sena approach us if they want support. If they approach us, we will then talk to our ally (NCP)."
Though the BJP and Sena had fought the elections in an alliance, the Sena after the poll results demanded rotational Chief Ministers and 50:50 formula in the sharing of ministries.
As the poll results were declared on last Thursday, the BJP and Sena together won 161 seats with the saffron party getting 105 of them.
The Sena, which has won 56 seats, may push its young leader and Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray to become the Chief Minister.
Earlier, the Sena leaders had said "other options" are open for them fuelling speculations about the party's joining hands with the Congress and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The Congress and NCP, which had fought the state polls in an alliance, managed to win 98 seats together.
The majority mark in 288-member assembly is 145.
