Cong to hold 10-day protest against Modi govt over economic slowdown, RCEP
New Delhi/UNI: The Congress party on Wednesday announced a nation-wide protest against the Narendra Modi government on various issues including the current state of the economy.
The nationwide protests will be held between Nov 5 and 15 "against the misrule of the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre," said a statement issued by AICC general secretary in-charge of organisation, KC Venugopal.
The protest will be held "with special focus on the adverse impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), current economic crisis, mounting unemployment, spiraling price rise, collapse of the banking system, heavy loss of jobs in public and private sectors, omnipresent farm distress among others," he added.
Venugopal said the protest will be at the state capitals followed by protests in all the district headquarters and it will culminate in a massive program in the National Capital in the last week of November.
At the state level, the PCC presidents, CLP leaders and senior AICC functionaries will provide the leadership, he added.
"Highlighting the above issues, the Congress party workers and its volunteers will raise the voice of the people and try to make this insensitive Central Government accountable for the countless miseries and sufferings that it is causing," the Congress leader further said.
He also said a meeting of the AICC General Secretaries, state in-charges, heads of frontal organisations and departments will be chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Nov 2, for reviewing the preparations for this agitation programme.
"AICC has also decided to depute 31 senior Congress leaders as observers to various States and Union Territories to monitor this agitation programme across the country. Senior Congress leaders will also hold press conferences in major towns and cities highlighting the adverse impact of RCEP, economic slowdown, unemployment, farm crisis, collapse of banking system among others," he added.
