China illegally acquired Indian territories from POK...Do not expect other countries to comment on internal matters of India: India's response to China
New Delhi/IBNS: India has issued a strong response to China after it called the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories "unlawful and void".
" The Indian government officially announced the establishment of so-called Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories which included some of China's territory into its administrative jurisdiction," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang was quoted as saying on Thursday by NDTV.
The statement followed after India at the midnight of Wednesday affected the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, separating Ladakh from the erstwhile state, creating two union territories.
India's official spokesperson of MEA Raveesh Kumar reading out a statement on Thursday said China is well aware of India's consistent and clear position on this issue.
"The matter of reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is entirely an internal affair of India.
"We do not expect other countries, including China, to comment on matters that are internal to India, just as India refrains from commenting on the internal issues of other countries," he said.
Holding that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral part of India and one should respect India's sovereignty, he said China continued to occupy a large tract of areas of the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and illegally acquired Indian territories from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).
He said India is concerned about projects in China-Pakistan's economic corridor in the territory illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1947.
On Aug 5, Modi government had revoked the constitutional provisions Article 370 and Article 35(A) that gave Jammu and Kashmir special status and declared the division of the state into union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
While India had maintained that the reorganisation of its states had no impact on the Line of Actual Control(LAC) and Line of Control(LoC), China had called an urgent closed-door meeting on the Security Council agenda item 'India Pakistan Question', where it failed to draw support in favour of its closest ally Pakistan.
On Oct 11, Chinese President Xi Jingping visited India on his second informal visit to deepen the ties and cooperation with China.
