West Bengal government extends blanket ban on gutka, pan masala for another year
Kolkata, Nov 01 (UNI) In a fresh move the West Bengal government has renewed its ban on manufacturing, storage/selling and chewing gutka and pan masala across the state for another year.
The latest notice, issued by Commissioner of Food Safety Tapan Kumar Rudra, banned manufacturing/storing/ and selling with effect from November 7 as the existing restriction notice for one year ends on that day.
The state government believes that pan masala and gutka are mixed with tobacco and nicotine which are very harmful for the health of the people.
The state government has imposed a complete ban on the production and sale of gutka, pan masala in the state for one year with effect from 7 November, the notice said.
As per the reports, the government has taken this step to control the adverse effects of using tobacco ( gukta and pan masala) since 2013.
