Panchkula violence: Court drops sedition charges against Honeypreet

Panchkula, Nov 2 (UNI) A local on Saturday dropped sedition charges against Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, and other Dera followers in the Panchkula violence case.

Honeypreet, the main accused in the Panchkula violence case, was produced in the court via video conferencing while other accused were present in the court during the hearing.

The sedition charges against the accused under Sections 121 and 121A of the IPC were dropped by the Additional District and Sessions court and the case has been sent back to the CJM court. The next hearing in the case will be held on November 6.

Haryana police had slapped the sedition charges against Honeypreet and 40 other dera followers.

Honeypreet was charged with criminal conspiracy and sedition in the Panchkula violence that broke out after the conviction of Dera Head.

At least 36 people lost their lives and more than 200 others suffered injuries during the violence in Panchkula.
