Will find a way to work together: Uddhav Thackeray on Cong, NCP
Mumbai/IBNS: Hours after the imposition of President's Rule in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is still pinning hope on forming a stable government through a new political configuration on Tuesday.
Setting aside the ideological differences with long-time rival Congress, the Sena chief said if the BJP and Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP) could form an alliance, it is possible in Maharashtra as well.
"We are from different ideologies but we can come together just like the BJP has done," he told reporters on Tuesday evening.
"The BJP and Shiv Sena were together for many years but now Shiv Sena has to go with the Congress-NCP. We'll hold further talks with both of them," he added.
In a new twist to the political crisis in Maharashtra, President's Rule was imposed in the state on Tuesday.
The President's Rule has been imposed in the state for six months.
The rule was imposed after the approval of President Ram Nath Kovind.
It is noted that the Governor's recommendation for President's rule in the state came when he had given time to the NCP till 2030 hours on Tuesday to prove that they have numbers to form the government.
Earlier, the Governor had given time to the BJP to form the government. However, the saffron party informed its unwillingness to form the government, after its ally Shiv Sena demanded an equal power sharing.
The Governor had also invited Sena to prove that they have numbers before 1830 hours on Monday, but they failed to present adequate numbers, because the Congress had delayed its decision over giving support to a Sena-NCP government in the state.
The NCP, which is behind the Sena by two seats, was then invited by the Governor to stake claim to form the government.
The NCP spoke to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at 11 AM on Tuesday to extend the deadline which was that of 8:30 PM.
However, the Governor sent a report to the centre that none of the three parties he had invited since Saturday - BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - could produce enough numbers to stake claim to power even 20 days after the Oct 24 state election results.
Following the report, the President's Rule was imposed in the state.
The opposition parties are criticising the Governor for acting in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Meanwhile, Congress and NCP continue to hold discussions on whether to support the Shiv Sena in forming the government even after the imposition of the President's Rule.
