New Delhi/UNI: Former Union Finance Minister and Indian National Congress veteran leader P Chidambaram on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking urgent hearing and bail in a money laundering case pertaining to INX media.
Headed by Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde, the three-judge bench, ruled that it will consider the plea likely on November 20, Wednesday.
Chidambaram is currently lodged in Tihar jail for his alleged involvement in the INX media case, related to alleged irregularities to a clearance by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board in 2007 when he was the Union Finance Minister.
Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation are the probe agencies conducting the inquiry against Chidambaram and others in the case.
Senior advocate and noted legal expert, Kapil Sibal, mentioned the matter before the apex court, saying that the plaintiff has been in jail for 90 days. "This Court should consider our prayer and give an urgent hearing into it," Sibal submitted.
On Friday, Delhi High Court had rejected the plea.
