Japanese student allegedly commits suicide at IIT-Guwahati
Guwahati/IBNS: A student from Japan was found dead inside a hostel room of IIT-Guwahati on Thursday evening.
According to the reports, the Japanese student identified as Kota Onoda – a student of Gifu University in Japan, who was doing internship at IIT-Guwahati was found dead inside the room number 142 of Lohit hostel of the higher educational institution.
The IIT-Guwahati officials suspected that it to be suicide case.
The Japanese student was doing internship in the department of Bio-Sciences and Bio-Engineering in IIT-Guwahati as part of a student exchange programme between the two higher educational institutions and his internship was scheduled to end on November 30 this year.
A top official of IIT-Guwahati said when some friends of Kota Onoda tried to contact him, they found that his mobile phone was switched off and they immediately contacted the authorities of the institution and also visited his room and found his body hanging from the ceiling.
“They immediately informed us and we informed police,” the official said.
The police had rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the hostel room.
North Guwahati Circle Officer Pranab Dutta Goswami said that – “We have received an information that, a student from Japan was found dead inside the room number 142 of Lohit hostel. Immediately a police team reached the spot and recovered the body from the room. We have suspected that, the student had committed suicide.”
“We have conducted our preliminary inquiry procedure and the body has sent for post-mortem,” Goswami said.
He further said that, no suicide note has been found from the slain student’s room.
