Maharashtra guv should resign on moral grounds: Ashok Gehlot

Jaipur/IBNS: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari should resign on moral grounds for being a part of the plot that led to the surprise swearing-in of Devendra Fadnavis as the CM of Maharashtra, an India Today report said.

Slamming the governor for accepting the list of MPs produced by BJP's Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, he said, "The mandate lies with Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP."

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday demanded in the Supreme Court that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must take a floor test to prove its majority in Maharashtra Assembly.

However, the Supreme Court rejected any floor test by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for now to prove its majority in the Maharashtra Assembly and asked the Centre to first produce the letters of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claiming majority along with the Governor's invitation to form the government.

The three-judge bench of SC also issued a notice to Fadnavis, his deputy Ajit Pawar, the state and the Central government.

The Centre will need to produce the letters in court by 10.30 am on Monday.
