Ajit Pawar not to take oath today
Mumbai/IBNS: Even as the NCP is all set to occupy the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the Maharashtra government, Ajit Pawar will not be sworn in today.
Ajit Pawar, who triggered shockwaves in the NCP camp after taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra siding with BJP last Saturday, returned to the party fold but was stripped of his powers as the head of the legislative party of NCP.
Amid criticism for causing a coup against his uncle and NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar, when he was busy in the difficult task of pursuing Congress president Sonia Gandhi's consent for a Siv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra, the junior Pawar said backing BJP wasn't a revolt.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will take oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at Shivaji Park here in front of a huge gathering, after a prolonged political tussle for almost a month.
After the poll results which came out on Oct 24, the Sena had demanded 50:50 power share in the government and rotational Chief Ministership, which was rejected by the BJP.
Following the rejection of the demands, the Sena and BJP parted ways.
The BJP and Sena had fought the polls as allies and won 105 and 56 seats, respectively
The NCP and Congress had bagged 54 and 44 seats.
In the new combine, the Sena (56), NCP (54) and Congress (44) together have 154 MLAs.
