Sikkim: Governor appoints PS Tamang as CM with fresh Oath of Office
Gangtok/UNI: Governor Ganga Prasad, administered oath of office and secrecy to the leader of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, PS Tamang, as the Chief Minister of Sikkim at Sikkim House, Delhi, on Saturday.
"Governor appointed Prem Singh Tamang, as the Chief Minister of Sikkim under clause (1) of the Article 164 of the Constitution of India and administered a fresh oath, in a formal ceremony held at Sikkim House, Delhi late in the evening," said K.Bhattarai, Deputy Secretary to Governor.
The fresh appointment has been made after the completion of six months term of PS Tamang and he was elected during the recent assembly by-polls. Earlier, the Legislators of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha(SKM) submitted a resolution adopted unanimously by them, reiterating faith in the leadership of PS Tamang, after electing him as such.
As per sources, the oath ceremony was fixed on November 26 last, but was postponed.
PS Tamang has been elected in October to State assembly seat from Pok-Lok Kamrang, South Sikkim. He had assumed the office as the Chief Minister of Sikkim as a non-elected representative in May after SKM emerged as the majority party but was expected to contest within six months.
The ceremony was held in Delhi as the Governor Ganga Prasad, is presently there undergoing treatment for spinal injury. He has been discharged from Primus hospital recently, where he was admitted earlier on November 25 last and is on bed rest as per the advice of the doctors.
