Puri: Minor girl gang-raped by four policemen in police quarter, prime accused held
Puri/UNI: As India witnessed outrage over the rape and murder of a young veterinarian in Hyderabad, four police personnel allegedly raped a minor girl of Nimapara in a police quarter in the pilgrim city of Puri on Monday evening.
Police detained the main accused, Jeetendra Kumar Sethy, and are looking for other four policemen.
The police also recorded the statement of the victim girl.
According to the complaint by the victim with the Kumbharpada police station while she was waiting for the bus at Nimapara bus stand accused Jeetendra Kumar Sethy along with three other police personnel in plain clothes in a car offered her lift.
When the victim girl did not respond, Sethy showed her his police identity card.
The victim girl accepted the lift, Sethy and his colleagues brought her to the police quarter located near Jhadeswari temple close to the reserve police line and all four raped her.
After raping, they bolted the door from outside while the main accused was lying on the bed in the room.
The girl after gaining strength tried to open the door but failed. She then asked a passerby and requested to open.
The stranger opened the door bolt.
The victim girl took the wallet of Sethy from his pocket and walked to Kumbharpada police station.
She was again harassed as the lady ASI in duty was reluctant to entertain her complaint as policemen were involved.
Later the IIC of Kumbharpara accepted her complaint and when he found the Sethy's police ID card and other documents from the wallet, the police rushed to the Sethy's quarter and nabbed him while he was sleeping under influence of alcohol.
Puri superintendent of police Umashankar Dash who is present in the police station took her statement and said all involved would be arrested.
He said a special team led by Kulamani, IIC of Kumbharpara police station, is conducting raids to nab other three policemen while the car involved in the case was seized.
It is learnt that Sethy was suspended from service for his alleged involvement in criminal cases like rape.
Police would get the statement of the victim recorded before the magistrate court and send her for medical examination.
