Hyderabad veterinary doctor gangrape-murder case: All four accused killed during encounterÂ
Hyderabad/IBNS: The police said all the four accused in the Hyderabad gangrape and murder of a veterinary doctor case were killed during an encounter at Chatanpally near Shadnagar, on the outskirts of the Hyderabad city, on Friday.
Police said they were killed as they tried to escape from the custody.
The entire incident had triggered an outrage in the country.
The charred body of the veterinary doctor was found last week.
The four men, who were identified as Mohammad Ali alias Mohammad Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar and Chintakunta Chenna Keshavulu, were taken to the scene of the crime at 3 am for a reconstruction, media reports said.
The police claimed that the accused tried to escape while the crime scene was being reconstructed and was killed during an encounter, reported UNI news agency.
The encounter took place just a few meters away from the place where the veterinary doctor was set ablaze.
All the top senior police officials arrived at the encounter site.
“They did not stop even when asked to surrender. As a last resort, the police had to fire at them, killing them on the spot,” the official said on condition of anonymity to Hindustan Times.
The police had arrested all the four accused in the incident on Nov 29.
They were sent to police custody for seven days on Dec 4.
Meanwhile, the sister of the veterinary doctor's sister told media: "I am happy for what happened today."
Her father was quoted as saying by ANI news agency: "It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police and govt for this."
Reacting to the incident, Asha Devi, mother of the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, told media: "The police did the right thing and they should not be questioned for this incident."
The Telangana government had constructed a special fast track court at Mahabubnagar for a speedy trial in the case.
The veterinary doctor from Shamshabad in Hyderabad was found dead with her body partially burnt under Chatanpalli bridge in Shadnagar last week. She was raped, smothered and then burnt by four men.
The entire incident had triggered nationwide protests.
