Hyderabad/IBNS: Stating that law has done its duty, Cyberabad Police on Friday gave details of the events which left all the four accused of the veterinary doctor killed during an encounter here

Police said they tried to attack them with sticks and even snatched their weapons to started firing at the cops which made them gun down all of the accused in the gangrape and murder case.

"Today, the police brought the accused to the crime spot as part of investigation. The accused then attacked the police with sticks and then snatched the weapons from us and they started firing on police," Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar, said whiel addressing a press conference.

He said two cops were injured during Friday's incident.

"The police warned them and asked them to surrender but they continued to fire. Then we opened fire and they were killed in the encounter. During encounter, two policemen have been injured and they have been shifted to the local hospital," he said.

"Law has done its duty," the top cop said.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission on Friday said it has directed its DG (Investigation) to immediately send a fact-finding team on the spot to investigate the matter.

"The Commission is of the opinion that this matter is required to be probed very carefully. Accordingly, it has asked its Director General (Investigation) to immediately send a team for a fact finding on the spot investigation into the matter. The team of the Investigation Division of the Commission headed by an SSP, is expected to leave immediately and submit their report, at the earliest," NHRC said in a statement.

"The Commission has already taken cognizance of the increasing cases of rapes and sexual assault on women across the country and a detailed report has been called for from the all State governments and police heads as well as from the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development. A number of such cases including the Telangana case had forced the Commission to intervene into the matter," it said.

Amid the public outrage over the rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinary doctor,  police shot dead all four accused in the case in an encounter at the incident spot at Chatanpally in Shadnagar in the wee hours of Friday, leaving a nation divided on the "instant justice". While a large number of people celebrated, many were alarmed by what they think is an "extra judicial killing" setting a dangerous precedent.

The encounter took place between 3 am and 6 am in Chatnapally where the body of the victim, who was also charred by the accused after murdering, was found.

How the horrific rape incident occurred?

On Nov 28, the men, lorry drivers and cleaners, saw the woman park her scooter near a toll-booth. They allegedly punctured a tyre of the scooter and waited the return of the victim.

When she returned, they pretended to help her, forcibly took her to a scrubland in a deserted spot and gang-raped her, before strangling her. They then burnt her body to destroy evidence, according to police.
