Unnao rape victim to be cremated today, family agrees
Unnao/IBNS: The family of Unnao rape victim, who was set on fire by five people, including two of her alleged rapists, on December 5, has finally agreed to cremate her body today after assurance from the officials, media reported.
The last rite will be held at the family's village. The security in the area has been tightened in the village ahead of the 23-year-old victim, who succumbed to her injuries in Delhi's Sufderjang Hospital on December 6.
Earlier, Unnao rape victim's sister had said till the time Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath doesn't come here their family won't cremate her sister.
The official has asked her family members to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow but her sister had said he should meet their home in Unnao.
The family members had said they do not want compensation and demanded that the culprits should be hanged for killing.
She was set on fire on Thursday morning by five men while she was heading to a local court for the hearing on the rape case filed by her against the accused from her village.
The victim suffered cardiac arrest at 10 minutes past 11 on Friday night and was declared dead 30 minutes later at 11:40 pm.
The five men including the two accused in the rape case were arrested for setting the victim on fire.
The girl in March had filed the rape case against two men from her paternal village in Unnao. The men had allegedly raped her and filmed the act.
Hitting out at the government for not providing security to the victim, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, Akhilesh Yadav, sat on a dharna outside the Vidhan Bhavan.
