17 injured in road mishap on Shehzadpur-Saha road in Chandigarh

Ambala/UNI: At least 17 persons, including women and children, travelling in tempo traveller from Chandigarh to Haridar were injured when the vehicle overturned after it was hit by a tractor-trailer near village Ghadoli on National Highway 344 Shehzadpur-Saha road last night.

The pilgrims were of one family and were on way to Haridwar to immerse ashes of the elderly person died a few days back.

The injured were taken to the hospital at Ambala and Shehzadpur by the local people with help of police.

The seriously injured were referred to the Government College Hospital Sector 32 Chandigarh.

On receiving information, Tehsildar Surender Bhardwaj reached the spot. The police and local people retrieved the injured from the badly mangled tempo traveller.

In the complaint lodged by tempo driver Golu Kumar, he said that he had left from Sector 26 Chandigarh at around 1615 hrs for Haridwar.

As soon as he reached near village Ghadoli, a tractor-trailer coming from the wrong side rammed into his vehicle following which it fell on roadside and went upside down.

He said that all the passengers including himself were injured.

The tractor-trailer driver taking benefit of the crowd escaped from the spot.

The police registered a case against the tractor driver for wrongful and rash driving.
