Guwahati/IBNS: While the BJP-led Union government has passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha and now aiming to pass it Rajya Sabha amid massive protests in Assam and other parts of the North Eastern region, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and North East Students’ Organization (NESO) Advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that, it is a political injustice to the people of North-East by the Centre.

He alleged that the Centre doesn’t treat North East and Assam as a part of India.

Bhattacharya said: “All the seven states of the region are lodging protest against the bill. What should be the reaction on the part of the government of India? They are adopting an arbitrary attitude towards the people of the North-Eastern region.”

“Congress had imposed the IMDT act to protect illegal Bangladeshis and now the BJP-led government has imposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill to protect illegal Bangladeshis. By passing this bill in Lok Sabha yesterday, it is proved that the BJP-led government at the Centre is anti-Indian constitution, anti-Assam Accord, anti-secularism of India. It is an arbitrary decision. So, we can’t accept this bill at any cost, because it threats to the language, culture, identity of the indigenous people of Assam and North East,” Bhattachrya said.

The Assam student leader accused the BJP-led Union government that, the central government is trying to divide the people of North East.

“But, today, the people of the North Eastern region have passed a strong message. Though the North East is politically divided into seven states, mentally or emotionally we are one. In crisis moment, we are all one. All other states are totally shut down. So it is a strong warning and message to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the country that we are all one, you can’t divide us. In all crisis, we are all together and there is also a part of country beyond Kolkata that is North East,” Bhattachrya said

Bhattachrya further said that – “Today (December 10) is the martyrs day – the first martyr of the Assam movement had lost his life, sacrificed his life and 855 martyrs had sacrificed their lives and on this day they passed the CAB on the floor of Lok Sabha. It is a insult to the indigenous people of Assam and North East. It is a betrayal to the indigenous people of Assam.”

The AASU leader further said that, the All Assam Students’ Union will move to the Supreme Court against the bill.
