Congress acted like Pakistan in ignoring non-Muslim refugees: PM Modi in Jharkhand

Dhanbad/IBNS: Training his guns against the oldest party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jharkhand on Thursday said the Congress acted like Pakistan in ignoring the non-Muslim refugees who will now be granted citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

"Like Pakistan, the Congress ignored and ill-treated the refugees (non-Muslims) who fled the neighbouring nation and took refuge in India to save their lives and religions," Modi said addressing a poll rally here.

Resonating the words of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Modi said, "The citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Christian, Jain and Buddhist refugees will be given because they were the maximum sufferers due to the division of India couple of times, once in 1947 and later in 1971."

Accusing the Congress of making flip-flop, the Prime Minister, who has been campaigning hard for his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand, said, "Open old newspapers and see how the Congress had promised to grant citizenship to all the non-Muslim refugees. But yesterday (in Parliament) made a flip flop."

Regarding the uninterrupted protests by the Assamese people against the CAB, Modi assured the people of the northeastern state that their rights won't be snatched away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning tweeted to assure the people of Assam that they have no reason to worry about the CAB.

Modi tweeted, "I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CAB. I want to assure them- no one can take away your rights, unique identity and beautiful culture. It will continue to flourish and grow."

The Prime Minister added in a follow up tweet, "The Central Government and I are totally committed to constitutionally safeguard the political, linguistic, cultural and land rights of the Assamese people as per the spirit of Clause 6."

After getting passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday by a overwhelming majority, the CAB- which will grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015- was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday evening with the support of 125 members as opposed to 99 MPs who had other voted against the bill.
