Mumbai/UNI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday allocated portfolios to his Cabinet Ministers, ahead of the winter session of the state assembly, which will commence on Dec 16.

Minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, a constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, has been allocated critical departments, including Home, Urban Development, Forests and Environment, Water Supply, and Parliamentary Affairs.

His party colleague Subhash Desai will handle Industry, Higher and Technical Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, Agriculture, Transport, and Employment Guarantee.

Nationalist Congress Party's Chhagan Bhujbal has been given Rural Development, Water Resources, Social Justice, and Food & Drugs, apart from other responsibilities.

His party colleague Jayant Patil will be the new minister of Finance, Housing, Public Health, Labour, and Minorities Development.

Congress' Vijay alias Balasaheb Thorat has been given the charge of Revenue, Power, Medical Education, School Education, Animal Husbandry, Milk, and Fisheries.

His colleague Nitin Raut will handle the Public Works Department, Tribal Welfare, Women & Child Development, Textiles, Relief & Rehabilitation and all Backward classes.

Thackeray was sworn-in, along with his six-member MVA team on Nov 28, but the portfolios were not distributed to the Ministers then.

However, the Chief Minister will handle those portfolios that have not been specifically allocated to any of his Cabinet colleagues, said an official spokesperson here.
