Congress to stage dharna against CAA in New Delhi tomorrow
New Delhi/IBNS: On a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a mega rally in Ramlila Maidan here, the Congress will try to corner the Centre over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, protesting against the new law by staging a dharna at Rajghat in the national capital on Sunday.
Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also be present.
The decision has been taken after a meeting between party leaders KC Venugopal, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The protest will begin at 2 pm and will continue till 6 in the evening.
The Congress took the decision following a criticism from political strategist and Janata Dal (United) leader Prashant Kishor that the country's oldest party is not protesting much against the controversial CAA which will grant citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.
Kishor, who runs the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) held responsible for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s victor in 2014 General Elections, was reacting on Sonia's statement accusing the Centre of brute repression of agiation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
"Congress is not on (the) streets and its top leadership has been largely absent in the citizens' fight against CAA-NRC. The least (the) party could do i(s) to make ALL Congress CMs join other CMs who have said that they will not allow NRC in their states," Kishor wrote on his twitter handle.

The least party could do it to make ALL Congress CMs join other CMs who have said that they will not allow NRC in their states. Or else these statements means nothing https://t.co/EWJLyc3kgR
"Or else these statements (referring to those by Ms Gandhi) means nothing," he added.
Modi will hold the rally on Sunday keeping the upcoming Delhi assembly polls in view.
