MEA rejects Chinese media report that Indian ambassador to Austria has been recalled on corruption charges

New Delhi/IBNS: The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar has rejected a report published by a Chinese news agency and other media outlets about recalling India's Ambassador to Austria and said facts were 'distorted' on the matter.

Speaking on the report, Kumar said the transfer of the officer was an administrative decision and distortion of facts related to the matter was 'mischievous'.

"Reports that India's Ambassador to Austria has been recalled to headquarters is factually incorrect. The decision to transfer the officer back to headquarters was an administrative one. The distortion of facts related to this matter is mischievous," Kumar said in a statement.

"No note on this regard has been shared with the media by the Ministry. Any reference attributing the Note to the Ministry is false and baseless," he said.

Chinese news agency Xinhua on Dec 30 reported a senior lady diplomat belonging to the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) has been recalled from Austria after being found guilty of corruption, particularly misusing large amounts of government funds.
