Narendra Modi speaks to Donald Trump, expresses desire to work with US Prez to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interests
New Delhi/IBNS: Amid ongoing tension between Washington and Tehran, Indian PM Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump to wish him on New Year, officials said.
During the interaction, Modi expressed his desire to continue to work with President Trump for enhancing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
"The Prime Minister wished President Trump, his family and the people of the United States good health, prosperity and success in the New Year," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Prime Minister stated that India-US relations, which are built on trust, mutual respect and understanding, have grown from strength to strength.
"The Prime Minister highlighted the significant progress made in deepening the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in the previous year and expressed his desire to continue to work with President Trump for enhancing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest," read the statement.
President Trump wished the people of India prosperity and progress in the New Year.
He expressed satisfaction at the achievements in the relationship in last few years and reiterated his readiness for further deepening bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders spoke at a time when relationship between the USA and Iran touched new low following the killing of head of Iranian elite Quds Force Qasem Soleimani in US airstrike.
He was killed in Baghdad.
Iran vowed harsh revenge over the general's killing.
