Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case: 25 IAS officers to face action for mismanaging shelter homes in Bihar
Patna/IBNS: As many as twenty-five IAS officers among 70 officials could face action for lapses in managing shelter homes across Bihar that was rocked by the revelation of rape and sexual exploitation of over 40 girls lodged in such facilities in 2018, media reports said.
The irregularities were discovered one by one during the one-and-a-half years probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) as the investigating agency unearthed the hidden links.
The CBI has asked the Bihar government to take appropriate action against the accused officials and has also informed the Supreme Court about the findings.
In an affidavit filed to the Supreme Court, the CBI said it has concluded investigations into all the 17 cases linked to the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases.
The massive sexual exploitation of girls lodged in Muzaffarpur shelter home had come to light following a Bihar government ordered-social audit by Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
A medical board of Patna Medical College had confirmed the sexual exploitation of 34 out of the 42 girls sheltered at the home.
Main accused Brajesh Thakur, who ran several other homes and NGOs apart from the Muzaffarpur shelter home, has been arrested. During the investigation, it was found that 11 girls were missing from another home Thakur ran.
Apart from the grisly details of the case, investigations found that girls were forced to undergo abortion while one was allegedly killed and her body was buried. Her skeleton was later unearthed.
