Panaji/UNI: The Congress on Tuesday demanded revocation of a circular notifying organization of "Celebration of 70th Anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution" for January 16, 2020.

In a statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Trajano D'Mello said the SCERT organized a conference of Orientation- Training program entitled "Pariksha Parv" to deliberate on the 'protection of child's rights' on January 13, 2020, wherein a circular was given to the Heads of institutions numbering over 500, notifying "Celebration of 70th Anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution".

''The various complaints of the autocratic or dictatorial attitude of the Education Director towards educational institutions and its management has now come out in the open. The issuing of a circular to heads of government or government-aided or unaided secondary and higher secondary schools of Goa intimating the organizing of "Celebration of 70th anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution" and urging all the above-mentioned heads of institutions to make it convenient to attend the same without fail explains her dictatorial attitude for if Director of Education had consulted the institutional heads she would have been informed of the great feast of St Joseph Vaz,'' he said.

''The Chief Minister was pleased to understand the sentiments and reverence of the first Goan saint "St Joseph Vaz" who is also the patron saint of the Goan Archdiocese and declare January 16, 2020, as a restricted holiday.

However, it was pointed out at the conference that the 16th of January if not impossible would be difficult, as being the Feast of St Joseph Vaz which is an occasion for Catholics, to spend time in prayer and reflection on this great Saint's life no heed was paid,'' he said.

The Director of Education had displayed her disrespect to the Chief Minister by fixing the date of 16th which had been notified as a Restricted Holiday for reasons mentioned, he said, adding the Congress strongly condemned the attitude of the Director of fixing such a program on the day revered by Catholics and many members of various communities in Goa.

''We demand that the CM intervene and postpone the program for another date as every Catholic Head would like to participate in the Adoption of the Constitution Day as the same is SACRED to every Indian Catholic,'' he said.
