Delhi polls: Arvind Kejriwal waits over 6 hours for filing nomination

New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday waited for more than six hours at an election commission office here to file his nomination papers on the last day.

There was a huge queue of candidates on Tuesday as it was the last day of nomination filing for the Delhi assembly elections.

Kejriwal arrived with his family to file his papers in the afternoon and left in the evening.

He missed filing the nomination on Monday due to his roadshow.

"Waiting to file my nomination. My token no is 45. There are many people here to file nomination papers. Am so glad so many people participating in democracy," Kejriwal tweeted at 2.36 pm.

He was also very calm even after coming to know that many candidates were there without proper papers for nomination filing.

According to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the BJP allegedly sent more than 40 of the 66 candidates waiting to file nominations on Tuesday at the Jamnagar House just to block the Delhi CM's candidature.

"BJP planted 45 people in the line before Arvind Kejriwal. The Election Commission is deliberately giving each candidate half an hour or one hour...even those whose papers are not complete or those who don't have proposers," Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. tweeted.

He said the BJP can do whatever it wants but cannot stop Kejriwal from filing nomination and becoming the Chief Minister again.

The BJP has fielded its Delhi unit Yuva Morcha chief Sunil Yadav against  Kejriwal from New Delhi.

The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled to be held on February 8.

The votes will be counted three days later.
