Violence not solution to any issue: PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi/UNI: In the wake of the historic decision to end the Bru-Reang refugee crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said those who had strayed towards the path of violence, have expressed their faith in peace and decided to become a partner in the country's progress and stressed that violence is not the solution to any problem.

''The 25-year-old refugee crisis, a sad chapter in history has finally been closed,''  Mr Modi said in his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', his first in the new year.

The Central government will be spending Rs 600 crore for resettlement of Bru refugees, he said.

Talking about the historic decision to end the Bru-Reang refugee crisis, Mr Modi said, ''It is sad that Bru refugees had to live half their lives as immigrants in camps... but despite this, they believed in the Indian Constitution.''

Two weeks ago when different festivals like Bihu, Pongal and Lohri were being celebrated across the country, an important agreement was signed in Delhi ending the 25-year-old Bru-Reang refugee crisis forever, Mr Modi said, adding that this decade will bring new hopes for them.

Mr Modi said when every Indian takes a step forward, it results in India going ahead by 130 crore steps.

He maintained that water conservation is becoming a mass movement.

''A very innovative idea of harnessing a borewell for rainwater harvesting sprung up from Tamil Nadu. The country is replete with innumerable such stories, of water conservation, lending more strength to the resolves of New India,'' he stated.

Mr Modi thanked the people of Assam for excellent arrangements at the Khelo India Youth Games.

''A very special thank you to the people of Assam for the excellent arrangements at the Khelo India Youth Games. Khelo India has opened up new avenues for youngsters,'' he said.

Mr Modi averred that the stories of the patience and determination of children who participated in 'Khelo India Games' as well as their parents will inspire every Indian.

He mentioned that Mann Ki Baat has emerged as a fruitful, frank, effortless and organic platform for all to share, learn and grow together through which extraordinary feats by people of the country can be shared with the nation.

Mr Modi talked about Shailesh from Bihar who shared a 'MannKiBaat Charter' that offered glimpses of the issues covered in the programme over various episodes.

The Prime Minister wished the scientists associated with Gaganyaan Mission.

Mr Modi  mentioned that campaign such as  'No to single use plastic’, buying Khadi or ‘local’, sanitation and cleanliness, respect and honour for the girl child and emphasising on the new aspect of ‘less cash economy’ as positives outcomes of Mann Ki Baat.

He extended his best wishes to all citizens on country's 71st Republic Day and mentioned that the broadcast time of Mann Ki Baat was altered owing to the celebrations.
