Have we outsourced task of defeating BJP to state parties? Congress' Sharmistha Mukherjee slams Chidambaram

New Delhi/IBNS: After senior Congress leader P Chidambaram almost celebrated the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s victory in Delhi polls, Delhi Mahila Congress president Sharmistha Mukherjee on Wednesday slammed his colleague asking him whether the outfit has left it to the regional players to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following the AAP's landslide victory in Delhi, Chidambaram, like many regional political leaders, took to Twitter to say, "AAP won, bluff and bluster lost. The people of Delhi, who are from all parts of India, have defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP. I salute the people of Delhi who have set an example to other states that will hold their elections in 2021 and 2022."

Slamming the former Union Finance and Home Minister, Mukherjee, the daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, tweeted, "With due respect sir, just want to know- has @INCIndia outsourced the task of defeating BJP to state parties? If not, then why r we gloating over AAP victory rather than being concerned abt our drubbing? And if ‘yes’, then we (PCCs) might as well close shop!"

Replicating the 2015 assembly poll results, the Congress, which ruled Delhi for years, drew a blank while the BJP managed to win just eight seats.

Riding on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's agenda of governance, the AAP swept the elections by bagging 62 of 70 seats.

Following the disastrous results of the Congress, which earned just slightly more than just four per cent of the total votes, Mukherjee called out the party's top brass saying it was the time for the Congress to take action.

"We r again decimated in Delhi.Enuf of introspection, time 4 action now. Inordinate delay in decision making at the top, lack of strategy & unity at state level, demotivated workers, no grassroots connect-all r factors.Being part of d system, I too take my share of responsibility," she had tweeted.
