Delhi Police detain 28 Jamia students outside TN House
New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi Police on Saturday detained 28 students of Jamia Millia Islamia, who were protesting outside the Tamil Nadu House against the alleged lathi-charge by Chennai police on the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) agitators.
Police took the protestors to Mandir Marg police station.
According to Police, the Jamia students staged a protest outside the Tamil Nadu House against the CAA and police action over the agitators, who were protesting against the CAA, National Register of Citizenship (NRC) and the National Register of Population (NRP) in Chennai on Friday.
Criticising the alleged lathi-charge of Chennai Police, the call for the protest was given by the Jamia Coordination Committee.
The Jamia students, along with local residents, have been protesting against the ''police action on the varsity students'', apart from CAA, NRC and NPR, for more than two months now.
On Friday, an anti-CAA protest had turned violent, when the protesters allegedly clashed with Chennai police. The agitators accused the state police of resorting to baton charge.
According to reports, some police personnel and agitators were also injured in this incident.
