INX Media case: Delhi court grants bail to former NITI Aayog CEO Sindhushree Khullar and 5 others

New Delhi/UNI: A Delhi Court on Wednesday granted bail to six person including Former NITI Aayog CEO Sindhushree Khullar in the INX Media corruption case in which former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram are also accused.

In this matter, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case on May 15, 2017 for alleged irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during the tenure P Chidambaram as finance minister.

After CBI's case, Directorate of Enforcement (ED) also lodged a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

In this matter, P Chidambaram was taken into custody on August 21, last year when he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in INX Media corruption case and on October 16, ED arrested him under the provisions of PMLA. Chidambaram was granted bail by the Supreme Court on December 4.

It is submitted on behalf of the accused persons that CBI did not arrest them at the time of investigation of the case and now when the investigation is already completed and the final report has been filed so there is no ground to take them in custody. He further submitted that they did not tried to hamper the probe.

Counsel for CBI opposed the bail applications by submitting that they may tamper with the evidence and flee from justice if granted the bail at this stage.

Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar after hearing arguments granted bail to Former Niti Aayog CEO Sindhushree Khullar, Former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Finance Minister Pradeep Kumar Bagga, Former FIPB Director Prabodh Saxena,  Former Section Officer of the FIPB unit in the Finance Ministry Ajeet Kumar Dungdung, the then under secretary in the FIPB unit Rabindra Prasad and Former Joint Secretary (Foreign Trade) DEA Anup K Pujari.

The court granted the bail to accused persons with the condition to furnishing a surety bond of Rs 2 lakh each and not to leave the country without the permission of court.
The court further directed them not to tamper with the evidence or hamper the probe.
