Ahmedabad/IBNS: After a grand welcome and a brief visit to Sabarmati Ashram, US President Donald Trump arrived in Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday where he is scheduled to participate in the 'Namaste Trump' event.

Over 1 lakh people are present in the stadium, which was newly constructed recently, to witness Trump's visit to the Gujarat city, considered as one of the politically crucial states in the nation.

Following his arrival in India, Trump was welcomed by PM Narendra Modi with a bear hug.

Trump then participated in a 22-km long roadshow as he reached the cricket stadium, after making a brief visit to the Ashram, where he even tried his hand in spinning the wheel (charkha), as India rolled out a red carpet welcome to the US President on his visit to the nation.

This is Trump's first visit to India since becoming the US President of the country four years ago.

PM Narendra Modi is accompanying the President since he arrived in Ahmedabad earlier in the day.

Trump is visiting India for two days.

He is scheduled to reach Taj Mahal later in the day.
