AASU plans to form an alternative political force ahead of 2021 assembly polls in Assam
Guwahati/IBNS: While the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) – an influenced students’ organization of Assam, has continued its protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA, the students organization is now planning to form an alternative political force in the state ahead of 2021 assembly polls in the state to defeat BJP.
The students’ body has discussed the matter during its crucial executive meeting held in Guwahati on Friday.
By aiming to make a route to form an alternative political force, AASU will organize a national convention in Guwahati in last week of March.
AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that – “The people of Assam want a political alternate because all the political parties including Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), BJP they have betrayed the sentiment of the common people of the state.”
“In all aspects, especially in foreigners’ issue, they have betrayed us and in other issues also. So, the common people are now searching for a political alternate and this type of serious issues are also discussed in our meeting. We will take decision in near future,” Lurinjyoti Gogoi said.
He further said that, the BJP party is trying to polarize the whole situation by taking Assam as a guinea pig.
“They (BJP) are trying to polarize the issues to grab the votes of illegal foreigners. The BJP-led government is also doing divisive politics. In Assam, all the political parties have betrayed us and it is a time for political alternate and it is a sentiment of the common people. We must respect of the common people’s sentiment. After consultation with all the anti-CAA groups we will decide how will move forward,” the AASU General Secretary said.
On the other hand, the students’ organization has also taken a decision to intensify the anti-CAA agitation, movement in Assam after completion of the ongoing examination of Class 10 and 12.
AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that, AASU has taken a decision to continue the anti-CAA movement in a non-violent manner.
“Now the examinations are on and different programmes are also on, but just after the examination we will intensify the anti-CAA movement across the state. We have decided to form a common forum of the organizations who are involved in the Assam agitation,” Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said.
He also said that AASU and other organizations, who associated with the anti-CAA movement will jointly announce the anti-CAA agitational programmes.
The Assam student leader also warned the government to stop the repression on the anti-CAA activists including AASU office bearers.
“We like to warn the state government to stop the repression on the anti-CAA movement.We also like to warn the centre that, they must scrap CAA. The people of Assam and North Eastern region are determined to carry this movement in non-violent way. If they have respected the non-violent movement they must scrap CAA,” Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said.
